Yesterday when I was practicing my “shoot from the hip” technique, J started goofing around in the tree. I couldn’t resist and had to hold the camera properly and take a few shots. These are a bit odd as far as angles go, but they really show how much fun he was having just being silly.

Fun in the Garden
June 23, 2010Shoot from the Hip
June 22, 2010Secret Agent Mama has a competition running to “Shoot from the hip”. This means you must literally hang the camera strap over your shoulder, position your camera at hip level, and shoot. Simple … right? Well actually not really. I lost track of how many photographs I shot just to get these 2 looking almost reasonable. What a challenge, but what fun too. When I was downloading the photos J had a look an announced “gosh mommy I didn’t even see you take these photos”. Mission accomplished then hey
So here are my entries to try and win a fabulous High Key Camera Strap. These straps are so funky and awesome, I’d love to have one and be the “cool kid on the block” for a change
Frost in Badplaas
June 18, 2010My son has always seen frost on TV or out the car window, but he has never had a chance to play in it and feel it. Yesterday morning there was the first frost here in Badplaas. He was terribly excited when I showed him and asked if he could go and feel it. I don’t think he realised just HOW cold it would be when I told him it is very cold.
I struggled to decide which photos to show you as they each tell a different side of what he experienced, so here are many photos.
The realisation dawns that this is actually VERY cold
But the urge to feel it cannot be resisted
Trying to warm up in a patch of sun
Making footprints in the frost
This was Garfield’s first experience of frost too – he didn’t seem to mind at all
Ice Crystals perfectly formed on a piece of wood
Ice on his shoes from running around
Teasing me that he would lie down and roll down the hill
a hre
He eventually settled for running down the hill
A Dream Party for a 7 Year Old Boy
June 17, 2010Michelle emailed me last week and asked me to take photos at her son’s birthday party on Wednesday. The party was held at Forest Fun in Tierpoort on the outskirts of Pretoria. It is a wonderful venue with plenty space for the kids to run and play. They had a jumping castle, pony rides, a ride on a tractor trailor, and were able to ride motor bikes on a paved path through a forest area. The highlight of the day was definitely the Go Carts that Michelle hired, the boys were in heaven.
Michelle here are a few photos from your son’s special day. Thank you so much for asking me to be a part of it. I will be in touch with you soon regarding delivery of your dvd.
A New Theme
June 14, 2010When I first started blogging it was all so new and overwhelming to me that I rather hastily put something together. But now I have reached a point where I have started to particularly like the look of some blogs and more importantly, particularly dislike mine. So here is the new theme that is still a work in progress, but I don’t think it will change much from this basic layout.
I was experimenting with textures again today and am rather pleased with the way this one turned out. I hope you like it too.
Golf Championships in Badplaas
June 13, 2010On Saturday the Highveld Golf Association League Golf Championships were held at Badplaas Golf Club, who are also the sponsors of this competition . The course is in outstanding condition and the weather was warm and sunny – perfect golfing conditions.
The match between Middleburg and Volksrust was closely contested. On the 17th they were all square and it came down to a nail biting finish on the 18th. Volksrust manage to clinch the match and are now the champions.
In the veterans match Middleburg played against Greenside. Greenside were victorious.
It was a great day, and the hosting by Leon Rorich at Badplaas Golf Club was impeccable as always.
You can see more photographs from this day here.
A Boy and His Cat
June 11, 2010The weather here in Badplaas has been so fantastic, we’ve really been very lucky. The other day we decided to sit outside while having our lunch. I could not help smiling and feeling all warm and fuzzy watching my son and his cat. There is this quiet contentment that has come over them both. Living on a golf course is in such stark contrast to living in our little townhouse, surrounded by burglar bars, security gates and teeny tiny gardens. I love watching them romp and play and just totally enjoy being alive.
2010 World Cup – Mbombela Stadium
June 10, 2010The golf league finals are being held at Badplaas Golf Club this weekend. In preparation for this we drove into Nelspruit to get some supplies. While we were there we took a drive to the Mbombela Stadium which is hosting four of the World Cup Games. What was glaringly noticeable is the fact that unless you are within a 2km radius of the stadium itself, there is really not much up in the way of flags or advertisement that tells people that Nelspruit is a host city. When you consider the lengths that Johannesburg and Cape Town have gone to it really is a shame.
On Carte Blanche recently they had an insert surrounding the controversy surrounding the building of this stadium. The stark contrast surrounding the stadium is something that cannot be missed. It saddened me to see this beautiful structure that has been built in the midst of abject poverty. I can’t imagine the disappointment, frustration and anger the local residents must be feeling.
Anyway, here are some photographs that I took of the stadium today. They appeared to be rushing to get all the finishing touches done before the first game.
Learning to play golf
June 9, 2010One of the advantages of us living on a Golf Course is the fact that my son get’s to practice golf everyday, and get’s taught by a pro. Watch out Ernie Els, here comes my boy
Wedding Workshop
June 7, 2010On Friday 4th June 2010 I attended a wedding workshop with Deon and Natasha du Preez at Olive Mystery Wedding Venue in Pretoria. It was great fun, I learnt a lot and met some great photographers there too. Our models were wonderful and such great sports thanks so much to Elrana, Angelique, JD & Heleen and a huge thanks to dress designers Papillo and Immagika for the beautiful dresses that the models wore.
Here are some of the photographs that I took at the workshop. There are a few more in the wedding album on my Facebook page.
