The golf league finals are being held at Badplaas Golf Club this weekend.  In preparation for this we drove into Nelspruit to get some supplies.  While we were there we took a drive to the Mbombela Stadium which is hosting four of the World Cup Games.  What was glaringly noticeable is the fact that unless you are within a 2km radius of the stadium itself, there is really not much up in the way of flags or advertisement that tells people that Nelspruit is a host city.  When you consider the lengths that Johannesburg and Cape Town have gone to it really is a shame.

On Carte Blanche recently they had an insert surrounding the controversy surrounding the building of this stadium.  The stark contrast surrounding the stadium is something that cannot be missed.  It saddened me to see this beautiful structure that has been built in the midst of abject poverty.   I can’t imagine the disappointment, frustration and anger the local residents must be feeling.

Anyway, here are some photographs that I took of the stadium today.  They appeared to be rushing to get all the finishing touches done before the first game.
